He is a Bay Area native and is excited to be ministering on the San Francisco Peninsula with Central Peninsula Church. He spent 8 years traveling, writing and recording with the Christian rock band Nifty Tom 50.  He recently released his first full length solo album, “Instructions for Deconstruction,” on Eden Records.  More info and music can be found at www.jeromemadigan.com.

Thanks for the song Jerome.  It is exactly what we were hoping for with this project.  To hear it, check out the Current Submission link under Project Info.

The Parenthesis Project

By burt | October 27, 2008

While trying to drum up some interest for our new launch of The Hymns Unleashed Project, I dropped a line to the founder of The Parenthesis Project, a blog we find particularly appealing in the music arena.  I encourage anyone with interest in music and other media to give his site a read.  Reading his About page quickly revealed that the founder shares some of the same thoughts we have about music and faith.  He was kind enough to post an announcement about our effort on his blog, so…Thank you Parenthesis Project.

Welcome to The Hymns Unleashed Project

By burt | October 24, 2008

A while back, we realized some of the old fashioned hymns had some beautiful melodies, but alas, they seldom connect on an emotional level with younger people, or anyone for that matter that’s looking for a more upbeat musical worship style.  I’m a “boomer” who grew up in the 60s and 70s, and I still love some of that good old, electric guitar from that era.

That’s when it occurred to us that we might “rearrange” some of them into a more contemporary style. Fortunately, we have a great friend who happens to be one terrific guitarist. We asked him to arrange an electric guitar version of “It Is Well With My Soul.” WOW! Were we blown away at what he came up with. We liked it so much, we did a video of it so people could appreciate just how good it is.

Now, we’re on a mission to do more. We’d like others to take a crack at it too, so we’re inviting anyone with the musical talent to see what they can do. We ask only that they choose hymns with no copyright.

Time will tell what we do with it all, but we’d like to collect a dozen or so of these.

See Jesse’s arrangment in our About link.
